Designing a compacting bag

Camion benne.

Our customer – a global waste treatment group - had an idea: building a refuse compacting system for urban environments. Tests which had been made so far were not satisfactory as bags were either torn or were not leak-proof. The only solutions which had been found were out of line with the budget and challenged the viability of the project.

What if we started from scratch again?

The team suggested that they studied not only the bag, but also interfaces with other components. These interfaces were examined and then challenged, to broaden the scope of technical options. Our team suggested a material that meets the customer’s needs at the stage of prototype tests.

When tests were made on prototypes, the team worked on other more cost-effective materials and techniques, and on a method used to qualify any new materials.

A waste volume down by 70%

The concept put forward led to a solution for successful compacting. Materials and manufacturing processes recommended made it possible for the customer to divide initial budgets by 10.
